Good Fellowship & Companionship Awards
|
|
Following the Graduation Mass, the Good Fellowship Award and the Companionship Award were presented. These awards are the greatest honour the school can bestow on a 6th year student. The joint winners, Rebecca Murphy, Kildavin, & Ciarán Roberts, Bunclody, join a select group of past pupils who have been worthy recipients of the Good Fellowship Award since 1976. Graduation Mass
|
The end of year Graduation Mass was held on Wednesday the 26th of May in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody. This is one of the three occasions in the school year when the entire school community comes together therefore it is an extremely important event in school life. After the Mass the Principal, Ms. Threadgold, addressed the congregation. This was followed by the Presentation of Graduation Certificates, the Good Fellowship and Companionship Awards and the much anticipated speeches by the Head Girl & Head Boy. Prizegiving

|
The annual Prizegiving took place on the morning of Wednesday, May 26th. Awards, Certificates & Prizes were presented to the 4th Years, students who had full attendance in 09/10, those who excelled in Art, Irish, M.T.Wood, Physics, T.G. & D.C.G., Technology & Engineering, Music, S.P.H.E., Construction Studies and BT Young Scientist. The Annual Sports Awards were given to Players of the Year in Camogie, Basketball, Hurling, Football & Ladies Football, also the Sports Endeavour Award and Sports Personality of the Year. Student/Staff Match
|
The Annual Soccer Match between 6th Year students and teachers was held on May 24th to fundraise for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. The whole school came down to support the sides and those who expected a flurry of goals were left a little disappointed at the final whistle as there was no score. |
Congratulations to past pupil Maria Tomkins of Askamore who was recently presented with a High Achievers Award at U.C.D. on the basis of her Leaving Certificate Results. Maria, daughter of Ms. Mary Tomkins & the late Mr. Nicholas Tomkins, is in her 1st Year of studying Psychology at U.C.D.

May Concert
|
|
The Annual May Concert to raise funds for the F.C.J. Society’s work in The Sudan, The Philippines, Indonesia & South America took place on Monday, the 24th of May, at 8 o’clock in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody. The recital included music by the Junior Orchestra, on their very first outing, the Intermediate and Senior orchestras, various soloists, a Traditional Irish Music group, the new F.C.J. Jazz Band and the principals from the school’s production of “Grease” last October who sang a medley from the show. The night was greatly enjoyed by the packed audience and raised nearly €5,000. Visitor from TRIL
|
|
On Wednesday, May 12th, Ms. Niamh Scannell of TRIL – Centre for Technology Research for Independent Living – visited the school and spoke to classes about the research the Centre is doing to produce technologies which will help elderly people to live independently at home. Peter Kelly (V. II), son of Alan & Gabrielle Kenny of Ballyboy, won the TRIL Special Award at the 2010 B.T. Young Scientist Exhibition. Peter received a certificate and €1,000. The school received €2,000. |

Visits to Primary Schools
|
During the first weeks of May, groups of 4th Year students have been visiting our Feeder Primary Schools to answer questions about our school from 6th class students who will be starting secondary school with us this year. A further reason for the visits is so that the new students will recognise some familiar faces when they arrive here in September.

History Inspection
|
On Wednesday& Thursday, April 28th & 29th last, Mr. Kevin McCarthy of the D.E.S. Inspectorate conducted a two day inspection of our History Department. During the two days he visited History classes in every year group.

Boxing Champion
|
Congratulations to 1st Year student, Lisa Bolger (C.I), eldest child of Denis & Elizabeth Bolger, Ballycarney, on the huge achievement of winning a national boxing title recently. On April 10th last, at the I.A.B.A. National Championships in the National Stadium, Dublin, Lisa won the title of “National Girls 2 Champion – 39 k. weight – Champion of Ireland”. She is a member of the St. Aidan’s Boxing Club in Ferns.

Paris Visit
|
|
During the Easter holidays the 4th Year students travelled to Paris where they visited the F.C.J. Convent at Rue de la Santé where the Foundress, the Venerable Madam d’Houet, lived at the end of her life. They visited the room in which she died, which is preserved as a place of prayer and pilgrimage, and the museum containing things precious to her memory. They also went to the Louvre, Versailles, Disneyworld, the Stade de Français and Montmartre. |

Charity Fundraising
|
|
On Friday, March 5th, a Jersey Day was organised by the Student Council and raised €2,300. €500 was presented to a local man who is running in the London Marathon for Conquer Cancer and €1,800 was given to Goal for their relief work in Haiti. The Victoire II C.S.P.E. class recently raised €500 through a sponsored half day Silence for a Volunteer Project in Tanzania. |

Young Scientist Award

Congratulations to Peter Kelly,Victoire 2, on winning a Technology Award at the B.T. Young Scientists exhibition.Peter's project assists elderly people and convalescents to take gentle exercise without moving from their chairs.He received his award from TRIL,an initiative set to explore the physical,cognitive and social consequenc of ageing and develop technology solutions to address them. |

"Grease" the school musical

Final rehearsals are now taking place for this year's musical "Grease" .The show will be will be on stage Tues, 20th / Wed, 21st / Thurs 22nd and Sat.24th October at 8.00pm in the school hall. the show is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. |

School Mass and transfer to Le Cheile trustees
|
On Friday, Sept 25th , F.C.J. Secondary School had Mass to formally mark the beginning of the school year. Awards were given to the students who got first in their classes in 1st, 2nd and 5th year. A Special award was given to the 19 students who achieved 5a's or more in the junior cert Exam. A special Award was given to Hannah Deacon who got the 11 A's in her exam and to Marie Tomkins who topped the Leaving Cert results. The Mass was followed by the formal transfer of the trusteeship of the school from the F.C.J. order to the Le Cheile Trust. The F.C.J. ethos of the school will be maintained together with its customs and traditions . |

Junior Cert Results
|
Congratulations to all the F.C.J. students who did the Junior Cert - the results were excellent A special congratulations to Hannah Deacon who topped the Junior Cert results with 11 A's and to the 17 students who got 5 A's and over. |

Le Cheile - a New Trusteeship
|
This trust will carry out the increasingly complex legal and inspirational role previously exercised by the congregation and is established as a legal entity, under company law. The F.C.J. Ethos of the school and the Management of the school remain unchanged. The legal process is in progress and the symbolic transfer of the truseeship will take place at the first school Mass on September 25th. Present at the mass will be Sr. Maria Dunne, Provincial of the F.C.J. Congregation and Ms Vivienne Dunne, representing Le Cheile as well as representatives of the school's BOM. |
